Goodbye Cataclysm

Today I unsubbed from World of Warcraft Cataclysm.  I just can't get back into the game no matter how hard I try.  It is like the definition of insanity of doing something over and over, and expecting different results.

Cataclysm didn't bring back the part of the game I wanted with all the new zones redone.  I am not sure why I thought all the old zones were going to be like 2004 again with players everywhere.  I miss that part, and why I am just going to wait on Rift to experience all the excitement of a new MMORPG, and the community that grows with the game.

I have my Collectors Edition of Rift ordered, and after playing the last couple betas it left me very unmotivated to continue in Warcraft.  I have no intention of playing both at the same time so why bother playing Cataclysm when Rift is right around the corner.

I will still hop on vent, and chitchat with Oak, Hedge, and Zezzle until Rift Headstart begins on February 24th.

Cataclysm Players Are Idiots

Why do I think Cataclysm players are idiots?  Every year World of Warcraft players fall for the same tricks of items on the auction house for the Christmas event.

Every year I can put Ice Cold Milk, and Small Eggs on the auction house for crazy prices, and players pay the prices.  In previous years I have bought ten stacks of milk, and listed them separately on the auction house for 10 gold each.  That is right.  I charge 10 gold each, and it cost me a whole silver to buy a stack of 5.  The next day I go to my mailbox full of Auction Sold spam.

It is the easiest 1000 gold you can make.  Other players eventually catch on, and undercut you but it doesn't matter because you already made your gold.    I guess maybe next year everyone will be smart enough to not pay it, but don't count on it.  WoW gets new idiots to play every day.  You will have a fresh new crop next year who will buy it from you.

The same idiots who buy the milk will also buy the eggs.  Luckily I had alot of eggs in my inventory from some of the goblin quests, and killing stupid Hippographs in Azshara.  I put them on the auction house for 5 gold each, and each recipe requires five eggs.  Once again you are making easy money.

I look forward to this event every year so I can make thousands of gold with basically no farming required.  I want to thank all the World of Warcraft idiots that support me by buying my Ice cold milk, and small eggs.

I Can't Decide What Class To Play In Cataclysm

It is literally killing me.  I can't decide what class I am playing in Cataclysm.  Every class seems great until I go in the battlegrounds, and eat dirt for dinner.  Have I lost my pvp touch?  Are players just that much better at PvP these days?  Is it just my gear?  Are the other players twinks?

Whatever the case may be it is making me very crazy.  I think I am loving my class choice, and the next thing you know I want to /ragedelete it.  Every class has its strongpoints, and I need to just stick one out.

I initially rolled a Druid.  In PvE I am killing stuff in 1.2 seconds flat.  It seems like easy mode.  I love playing Feral while leveling up.  I get into the battleground, and I can't seem to kill an AFK caster.  It just doesn't make any sense.  At low levels it isn't to tough to spam 2-3 spells.

My next character is a Warlock.  Once again in PvE I am a mob killing machine.  I can kill stuff so fast.  I get into the battlegrounds, and Worgen Rogues can almost one shot me.  The problem is that is all there is in the battlegrounds.  You have Worgen Rogues, and Druids.  It sucks the fun out of my warlock so fast.

I decide to go back to my main character I played in Vanilla which is a priest.  I forgot how frustrating this class is to pve with.  You can't kill anything in less than a minute, and even with heals you find yourself dead alot.  In PvP in the battlegrounds though it seems priests are pretty deadly.  I guess SWP just is a sneaky dot that kills you without realizing it.  Add a little mind flay, and you are leading the killing blows.

My next character is a Hunter.  I literally think they are god mode in pve, and pvp.  I want to strangle every hunter I see with the string from their bows.  It is to unrealistic how fast they can shoot these bows.  They kill people so fast.  I haven't been in a battleground yet as one, but I definitely cry myself to sleep when one decides to kill me over and over in one.  You know something isn't right when they can kill three on one almost every time.

So for now I am still undecided which class to consider my main, and will be leveling up all four until one ends up being the class I have the most fun playing.

Do You Remember When?

Since returning back to World of Warcraft, and playing Cataclysm I hear Do you remember when constantly.  It reminds me of family reunions, class reunions, old friends finding each other, and so on.  You are always looking back at the great times you had.

Some of them I have heard in Cataclysm since coming back...

Remember the world pvp in TM and SS.

Remember when AV's would last hours, or even days

Remember when AV had thousand of npc's

Remember the boss NPC's in AV

Remember turtling WSG for hours

Remember in beta

Remember pvp in the tram

Remember when you couldn't afford your mount at 40

Remember when Horde didn't have Pallies

Remember MC 40 mans

Remember mind controlling into the lava

Remember Fear before pvp trinkets

Remember when you could only wear pvp gear if you kept your rank every week

Remember trying to kill the king in IF.

Remember in beta how many times you ran Uldaman

Remember when there were only like five flight paths in the game

Remember when you had to run to Hillsbrad to queue for AV

Looking back I can say Cataclysm is nothing like World of Warcraft at release.  I think a book listing every patch note, and hotfix in chronological order would bring back so many memories.  What do you remember from the game 5-6 years ago?

My Thoughts On Cataclysm

Okay.  So what do I think of Cataclysm now that I am in the Barrens?  It reminds me of when I was married, and I would come home to the furniture moved around in my house.  What do I mean by that?

I have to say I am pretty disappointed in the overall changes.  Of course alot has changed, but it really hasn't changed.  Basically all the quests are the same.  There are a few new ones, but for the most part if you were sick and tired of leveling alts through the lower zones it won't be much different even with Cataclysm.

I am basing my thoughts so far at only being level 12.  As I progress further I may think differently.  I stopped in the Barrens tonight, and really almost every zone looks the same with some minor changes.  It just seems they spread the quests out some more.  Every old quest still seems to be in the game, but it just moved to a different spot with maybe some minor changes.

I don't know, but when I think of Cataclysm I think of huge changes.  I think of Hurricane Katrina type of changes.  It just isn't that big of a deal.  The changes are probably more cosmetic, and anyone new to the game will probably love it compared to other players who have seen the same landscape for six years.

I am enjoying myself regardless.  I have always enjoyed grinding characters in World of Warcraft.  They make it easy to have multiple characters fully geared out.  The Latency Lowlifes are growing, and I look forward to having alot of fun in the game.

Goblin and Worgen Race Changes Should Be Frozen

I don't know if it is just me, or not.  I would have preferred that they not allow any paid race changes for at least 90 days.  It just seems it is cheating to convert one of your other characters instantly into a Worgen, or Goblin the first day of Cataclysm.

How are you going to know all the ins and out of your race?  Isn't the whole excitement, and fun leveling a character through the new Goblin, and Worgen content?  Why skip a part of the game that will probably give you lasting memories?

So I am giving everyone who paid to change their race to Worgen or Goblin my middle finger.

My Minecraft House After 25+ Hours This Weekend

I know.  How did I spend 25+ hours on my house in Minecraft?  I ask myself the same question.  I guess it is easy to do when your TV is right next to your computer desk.  I think you will enjoy seeing how my house has progressed these last two weeks.

A screenshot doesn't do much justice so I decided to record a short video tour of  My Minecraft House After Two Weeks.  As you can see I still have so many hours of work left on my house.  I don't really mind.  I am enjoying my time in Minecraft every minute, and I know block by block my Minecraft house will be unbelievable when I finally call it done.

My Infatuation With My Minecraft House

My Infatuation with my house in Minecraft
At first I was happy with my house in Minecraft.  I started visiting some multiplayer servers, and realized my house looked like a white trash trailer. I decided almost immediately that my grand plans of building my Minecraft world in one night is impossible if you want it to look good.

I have decided to take it way slower, and create a quality world.  I have been putting so many hours into my house in Minecraft it would blow most players minds.  The scary part is that it is no where even near being done.  It looks pleasing to the eye from the distance, but it is probably still weeks away from it being total completed.

I Am Still In Love With Minecraft

I know, I know.  I am sure many of my readers figured I would fall in love with Minecraft, and two days later hate the game.  I had my doubts myself.  Lately every game that I thought was love at first sight ended up being one night stands.

Minecraft is in a world of its own.  I am really, really addicted to Minecraft.  How addicted to Minecraft am I?  Do you remember a few weeks ago when I said I was going back to World of Warcraft for Cataclysm on Dec 7th?

Minecraft has taken over my life.  I am no longer interested in any MMORPG.  I am not buying Cataclysm, Guild Wars 2, or SWTOR.  I think I finally found a game that makes me happy.  It is crazy that I stuck with Warhammer Online so long, and made myself miserable every day when everything about the game always pissed me off.  I have lost complete interest in any upcoming MMORPG.

Minecraft has changed my whole outlook on life.  I am finding myself much happier these days in real life.  I see it has affected my whole life.  It has been two weeks since I posted a negative story about my real life job on Dealing With Annoying Customers.  Is it coincidence, or did Warhammer Online cause so much rage that it reflected in all aspects of my life, and now with Minecraft I am just an overall happy person?

Building With Minecraft

My mind is about to explode.  The addiction is fierce already to Minecraft.  I can't stop thinking about it no matter what.  I haven't had this feeling for a game in a very, very long time.

I am operating today on a back to back shift at work today with literally no sleep.  I stayed up until 4am playing the game.  I figured I would go to bed, and catch a few hours of sleep before this long dreaded work shift.  Guess what happened?

I tossed, and turned almost the whole time.   I couldn't wind down.  I just kept thinking about Minecraft, Minecraft, Minecraft, and more Minecraft.  I have all these things I want to build in my world.  Every minute I keep imagining more stuff to build, and how I want my world to look.  My mind is going 500 mph right now.

My world map is going to be amazing when I finish it.  I have so many great ideas I sometimes don't even know where to start.  How am I going to control my time in Minecraft?  What am I going to build first?

I have so many things I want to build I had to start making a list.  Will I ever be able to complete my world, or will there always be something to build, or rebuild better?

This is what is so great about Minecraft there is always something to do.

My Instant Addiction To Minecraft

Do you want to know how addicting Minecraft is?  Right now it is 4am.  I should of been to bed hours ago.  It hooks you instantly.  I started playing it today, and easily logged in over 10 hours of play time.  The time flies by so fast you don't even realize it.

The game is so simple, but so addictive.  I could see spending thousands and thousands of hours just building a world.  The exciting part about Minecraft is every hour you play the world is growing, and prospering.  I don't think you could ever run out of things to do in the game.

Basically today I started off with my initial shelter for the first few days of the game.  The days are usually around ten minutes, and the night cycle is around seven minutes.  You can spend the day out wondering around, and exploring.  You spend the night inside crafting, and avoiding zombies.

I spent a huge chunk of time building my house.  I built a pretty huge house on top of a high mountain overlooking the valleys, and a body of water.  It is so breathtaking.

I will be spending several more days building my house, and arranging it just perfect.  I have so many ideas of things I want to do to my house before even doing other stuff in the game.

I made a short little video to show my first shelter, and the home I am in the process of building.

What Class to Play In Cataclysm

After being years away from World of Warcraft I need to figure out what class I want to play on December 7th.  I haven't really kept up on the game so I am pretty clueless on what classes to play.  I have previously played a Paladin, Mage, Warlock, Priest, and a Druid.

I played my Priest the most, but after I made a Druid I told myself I would never play a priest again.  I literally ragequit playing my Mage about a week or two after hitting max level.  I hated my Pally, but at the time Pallies were the gimp, but I hear now they are pretty good.  I loved my Warlock, but I hated collecting shards all the time.  The decision seems easy to choose Druid.

That is where the problems start.  I can't play a goblin druid, and I played Horde most of my time in Warcraft.  Is it time I changed to Alliance, and played a Worgen Druid?  I just hate the thought of not knowing the Alliance side of the game very well, but with Cataclysm I probably won't know anything on the Horde side either.

A part of me wants to see all the new Horde zones, but I don't want to play any of the old race/class combos.  I want to experience a fresh new game.  It is probably going to be a decision I end up making the night I log in to Cataclysm.

Are most players going to play a Goblin, or a Worgen for Cataclysm?

Why Tier 1 Beats Tier 4 Content In Warhammer Online

Do you ever wonder why people love the free trial in Warhammer Online?  Is it really the free part, or is it that the game is actually enjoyable?  What does tier 1 offer that tier 4 doesn't?

Tier 1 offers a much more enjoyable play experience than tier 4.  Players are on a much more level playing field.  In Tier 1 you know that almost everyone has equivalent gear unlike tier 4.  It plays a huge part in the fun factor.  You don't have to worry about being 40 renown levels behind another player.  You know that pvp is more about skill than someone having better gear, and stats.

The problem is tier 4 is going to even get worse with the introduction of the increase of renown ranks to 100.  It is going to put even a bigger gap between the veteran players, and the new players.  It is going to make tier 4 quite frustrating for most players.  It not only effects new players, but even veteran players who make new alts.

Initially all the players who are max renown rank played on a basically even playing field while ranking up.  It is much tougher now to gain renown for a fresh rank 40 player.  They are constantly up against players who are twice as strong if not even more.  It means it is going to take alot longer to gain renown if you are dying more than you are killing.

This is where Warhammer Online needs to take a look at there game.  Should there be renown rank brackets for scenarios instead of just all rank 40's being thrown into the same scenarios?  If you are being spawn camped by a guild of RR80's, or RR100's soon enough how much fun is it going to be?

I am sure this is one of the biggest factors on why new players quit the game.  No one likes to play a game where they see too much of a gap between the new, and veteran players.  Can you even imagine the difference between a RR100 player, and a RR40 player?

How do you think they should fix the unbalancing of fresh RR40 players with RR100?

Badlands And The Future

By now everyone knows that Badlands is the server to be on.  Why?  It currently has the best activity of all the US servers.

It just makes me nervous with the rumors of paid server transfers coming.  Will everyone make a mass exodus to Badlands, or will there be a mass exodus off the Badlands server?

What can Mythic do to make people leave Badlands, and help balance out the other servers?  Will double renown for a few weeks do it?  Will players demand more than just that?  What else could they do to entice players to move off the server?

Should they just cluster the servers so being on any server won't really matter?  Is there server pride?

How are they going to prevent players from all conspiring to go to the same server?  How are they going to limit it, and not piss off players whose transfer gets denied, but all there friends made it?

Should they just make one mega server now, and save all the heartache?  What do you think will happen when paid server transfers happen?

Sick And Twisted

What could be so sick, and twisted for a video game?  This game is pretty disturbing, but because it is you can't help from playing it over, and over to try to get the top score.  This game was featured in @Gamer Magazine which is made by Best Buy.

Basically the premise of the game is to push someone down the stairs, and the more broken bones, head bending backwards, legs twisting, and so on the more points you get.  I told you it was sick, and twisted.  The game is called Stair Dismount.

They also have another similar game called Truck Dismount where you basically crash a truck, and you are the crash test dummy.  Once again the game is sick, and twisted, but you know you want to play it over, and over.

It is available in several platforms including windows, mac, ipad, and an iphone.

Warbloggers Exposed: Are You On The List

I am not sure how many Warhammer Online Bloggers are keen on sites that scrape feed content.  I figured I would expose it tonight for everyone to see.  The site is Warbloggers, and anyone with Google Analytics has the infomation right at their fingertips.  How many Warhammer Online Bloggers even realize this site exists?

Would you be mad to know that a site is out there that lets someone view every Warhammer Online blog on one convenient site?  How about when you see your own articles on there?

Lately I have noticed this uncommon use on my Google Feedburner stats.  I figured I would check out the site, and see who was linking me.  Surprise, surprise.  They aren't linking.  They are directly showing our feeds on their site.  They also have a tag cloud with all of our Warhammer Online blog names.  So whose site are they finding first on Google?  This site, or your blog?

Have you noticed your traffic dipping?  Are you wondering why no one is commenting on your blog any longer?  Is it possible this site may be stealing your traffic?

On the other side is it actually helping your blog?  Is it linking your blog, and in Google's eyes making your blog higher PR?

Just some of the blogs I have seen scraped on Warbloggers: Skuzfoz, Mmmmmm Gud, Thats Skar With A K, Massively, Don't Mention Ze War, TheHealerofTru, The Price of Wargh,Grimnir's Grudge, Bootae's Bloody Blog, Zizlak's Travel Diary, Werit's Blog, Rank N Vile,Super Effective, and more.

Even Wasdstomp is on it, and personally I am not happy about it.

What are you feelings about it?

Mass Exodus To Badlands

Is it deja vu or what?  I know personally I have lived through what is happening with Badlands.  I don't see it being good for Warhammer Online.  If I saw this pattern repeating itself I would be doing some damage control pretty quick to stop the bleeding.  What am I talking about?  Let me tell you my story.

Initially I started on the Reikland server.  It was dead from day one.  I had to pve all the way to 40.  This was before they changed the way scenarios queued, and stuff.  It sucked, and basically everyone left the server, and rerolled.  This was before server mergers so there was no other option.

I had this crazy idea to make another Bright Wizard on Magnus as they were offering an xp, and renown bonus.  Everything was good, and than the bonus went away.  Once again I had to basically pve the rest of the way to 40.  Initially taking keeps, and bo's were easy.  No one was really 40 so you could get alot of renown real easy with a group of 12 people or so.

Times changed as more and more people reached max level.  It seemed like it should be a good thing, but it eventually just caused every zone to be stalemates.  The losing side would stop queuing for scenarios, and zones wouldn't flip ever.  This was before domination timers.  After months of no successful fort takes, or city sieges everyone decided to do a mass exodus from Magnus, and go to the highest populated server Dark Crag.

It was a dream come true for most of us.  We had big plans to dominate the server on the Order side.  Sadly as each day passed most ended up quitting the game.  Not only the players who went to Dark Crag, but also other players on Magnus who felt like they got deserted.  I think in the end only about 5 out of probably 300 players stuck it out on Dark Crag.

At the time it was insane.  Order would constantly have the city locked down for 18 hours, and destro would be bored out of their minds, and soon order would be too since everyone had gear for the next 20 renown levels.

Being on the most populated server was great with around the clock pvp, scenarios, and etc.  Eventually Destro stopped playing.  One by one most probably quit, or rerolled to a lower pop server that had a destro advantage.

We all know what eventually happened.  Order had no one to fight, and Dark Crag closed.  I see the same thing happening now, and I am still skeptical that the rvr packs will fix it.  Everyone is flocking to Badlands.

This means the other servers are going to feel like ghost towns.  It gives players a few limited options.  Reroll to Badlands, keep playing on your current server that is now a ghost town, or quit the game.

I would just cluster all the servers now, and save all the heartache.  I think if domination is being removed in the rvr packs than maybe it will be possible.  I think players would be willing to help each other cross server more than having to gear up a fresh 40 on a new server.

I just think something needs to happen fast.  Eventually one side or the other will dominate Badlands, and people will quit the game after losing day after day, night after night.

My Top Five Games From PAX

Rift Planes of Telara
I spent this last Friday at PAX.  I have to say it was better than even I imagined.  It was just great to see, and play games.  It truly makes a difference on your decision making.  I found some games I never even knew about, but are now on my list of games to buy.

The top of my list goes to Guild Wars 2.   The game is just fun to play.  The graphics are amazing.  It is the first MMO that really makes you feel like you are making a difference.  I couldn't find any flaws with game, or find a reason to not like the game.  I think this game will definitely make a huge impact in the mmorpg genre.  If I somehow get selected for this beta I will play it till my fingers blister up, pop, and blister on top of the old blister.

The next game on my list is Rift Planes of Telara.  I spent three different sessions playing this game.  Each time I fell in love with the game more, and more.  Of course it is hard to judge a game in such a small little bit of time, but for me games are mostly a love at first sight.  I either like a game, or don't in the first few minutes of playing.  Fortunately I snagged a few beta keys, and will be downloading the beta, and having a contest to give away the others.

The third game on my list is Tera.  It is another mmorpg with amazing graphics.  They will have world pvp servers, battlegrounds, and arena fighting.  It sounds like my type of pvp game.  I signed up for the beta, and talked quite a while with the dev.  I enjoyed this booth the most because it wasn't like a swarm of bees hovering around, and I could ask lots of questions.  The dev said I was the only one the whole day that actually asked detailed questions about the game.  This MMO shouldn't be overlooked.  I think it is going to be a good one.

My fourth game on my list is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.  I have never played a game like this, and I didn't actually play it at PAX because I didn't want to look like a noob playing it.  I was mesmerized by other players playing it though.  I just love the killing part in that game.  It is so gruesome, and brutal.  The graphics seem so realistic.

My fifth game on my list is not SWTOR, but instead Star Wars Force Unleashed II.  The game should seemed full of action, and killing.  Playing it was just so exciting, and fun.  I guess sometimes a game like this is a great game to play when you need a break from the grind of an mmorpg.

Back From Pax

Waiting to get in to PAX 2010 in Seattle
Today I am back at home sitting in front of my computer hard at work.  After spending all day Friday at PAX I have so many games to write about.  It really opened my eyes for other games I may have never even have thought about playing.

It was a very exciting day at PAX, and I enjoyed it very much.  It was my first time ever at an event like this.  I don't know why I have never went before.  It is mind boggling.  I will never forget this whole experience, and next year I am buying a 3 day pass the day they go on sale.

You can see most of my PAX pictures on Twitter, and my PAX Gaming Video Remix on Youtube.  I will be busy uploading more videos, and pictures during the next few weeks.

RvR Pack 101: Keeps

It sounds like Keeps will be changing for the better. I have always thought that keeps should be more than just beating the doors down. It just seems like so much time was spent on these vast keep areas, and everyone just focuses on the doors.

My idea which is probably my favorite is to change keeps to a city siege type mechanic. Most of the inner keep areas are already like mini towns. Why not add objectives that you have to take inside for stage 1 of a keep take just like the first stage in the city?

Stage 2 entails protecting Warlords in the lower floor of the keep, and killing the other factions Warlords.

The Stage 3 would be a Keep Lord vs Keep Lord battle on the upper floor of the keep. Make player Champions just like the city siege so people get excited about being part of every keep take.

I would even be okay with making keep takes an instance inside of the Orvr lakes to make it so it works like the city siege.

Do you like the idea, or do you have another idea that you would like to see?
