If I Became Warhammer Online Producer

WAR Resurrection would be new Free RvR Pack to introduce F2P to Warhammer Online.

All current currency will be changed into one token system.  No more confusion.

Renown system revamp.  Earn RvR Spirits (1 pt per renown level) see Rift Souls for example

Servers are pvp race FFA.  It is no longer destro vs order.  Now each race can fight each other in Tier 5.  Now it is a six faction game to keep game balanced.

Each race now has access to each class from each faction.  You can now be a dwarf brightwizard.

City sieges removed from game.  Each city can now be invaded live (no instances).  Other missing cities added.

Scenarios removed from game completely.

Tier 4 caps at RR79, Tier 5 80-100

Remove diminishing returns on renown.  Equal distribution of renown to all group members in circle of renown.

RvR zones switched to AB style with keeps removed.  Must hold all 5 for 15 mins to lock zone.

No zone locking renown bonus.  Locking a zone now gives you temporarily 1 extra rvr spirit point, and takes away 1 rvr spirit point from losing race.

All rvr sets of armor removed from game

Introduce f2p cash shop.  no more crafting...all talismans, pots, etc purchasable in cash shop.

End game pvp set bought with new one token fits all currency system.

Skaven removed from game along with TI

RvR packs will now be free.

Guild levels removed from game.

Cross server rifts.  You can now join another server through a rift for an hour and have a little fun.

Renown VS. Honor

By now I think everyone knows the difference between renown, and honor.  Which system is better?  Would you rather grind renown, or honor to get the best gear?  Did Warhammer Online or World of Warcraft get PvP or RvR right?

Let's start with honor from World of Warcraft.  You can grind it in battlegrounds, or in world pvp.  You are limited to a maximum amount before you have to spend it.  Basically grinding honor gives you the second best pvp gear in the game.  Blizzard has basically made battleground gear the previous seasons arena gear.  The exception is is jewelry, and weapons.  They basically force you to play both which isn't a bad thing if you only like pvp in the first place.

The thing I hated the most about World of Warcraft PvP after arenas is you basically had to farm honor 2-3 times to get the best of the best, and of course rank in the top of arenas to get each seasons gear faster than anyone else.

In Warhammer Online you grind renown for most of your gear, and do scenarios for emblems needed to buy your weapons.  Scenarios are much quicker renown, and you are also earning emblems.  With the latest patch that no longer holds true.  Scenarios rarely pop so you are stuck trying to gain renown in Orvr.  The time played vs. renown gained ratio significantly reduces in Orvr.

I think World of Warcraft got PvP right for gear.  No matter how late you buy the game you are always just one tier of gear behind the old schoolers.  In Warhammer Online it is a different story.  They added multiple sets since introducing renown rank 100, but it still leaves anyone who recently hit rank 40, and renown rank 40 in a huge disadvantage.

Of course they boosted renown xp, and everything.  It helps a little, but you only gain the boosted renown xp if you are able to kill someone 2-3 times higher renown rank than you.  This renown curve will only get worse over time.

Just imagine in another few months with renown rank 100's roaming around.  Of course you are gaining additional renown to catch up, but a renown rank 40 player isn't going to fair very well against a premade of renown rank 100's.

This is where I think Warhammer Online is failing to keep eveyone pretty close to each other.  There is too much of a gap between renown rank 40, and 100.

World of Warcraft got it right by not ever letting a new person joining the game feel like it was impossible to gear up, and catch up with the same players who have been playing for five years.  You just can't keep adding renown ranks because eventually it will be impossible for a renown rank 40 to compete against a renown rank 200 two years down the road.

No player should ever feel that they can never catch up, and I am sorry but Warhammer Online is headed that way even with the boost.  The boost of renown means nothing if you get zero kills.

Do you see this eventually happening?  Should Warhammer Online introduce a more Warcraftish renown system to make sure all players can eventually catch up in a few months?  Do you believe old schoolers should always dominate, and it is there fault they just realized how fun Warhammer Online is?

My Warhammer Online Subscription Is Active Again

Today I took the big step, and reactivated my Warhammer Online account.  After a small break I am back.  I was going to wait for the RvR packs and patch 1.4, but I figured I better get back into the flow of the game before everything changes, and I am completely lost.

I will be on test today if I can get it downloaded before it begins.  I really want to try out the PTS with all the new changes so I am not completely in the dark when patch 1.4 and the RvR packs hit the game.

I still haven't decided if I should go back to my Bright Wizard, or stick with the Archmage.  I enjoy the Archmage more, but trying to grind 40 renown ranks to catch up may seem like a lifetime even with the boost.

I Hate Warhammer Online With A Passion

Why do I hate Warhammer Online with a passion?  I keep trying to kick this game to the curb like Wade Phillips of the Dallas Cowboys.  I was looking back this morning at my posts, and was thinking I finally beat the love-hate relationship with Warhammer Online by being unsubscribed for over a month.

I stopped even reading about the game.  I stopped reading almost every Warhammer Online Blog.  I stopped interacting with most on Twitter.  I thought I finally was going to be able to let go.  The problem is after reading Bootae's Twitter about the upcoming changes that Andy posted about acquiring gear, renown, gold bags, scenario matchmaking I want to play again. I blame Bootae for feeding my gaming addiction to Warhammer Online.  I bet right now Carrie, Andy, and the Warhammer Online Devs are probably laughing as they read this.  They probably had interoffice betting going on to see how long it took for me to come back to the game.

It is amazing that just a few simple changes to the game, and I want to play again.  These are changes I have been wanting to see for forever.  The problem is I have been out of the loop since unsubscribing so most of patch 1.4 will be overwhelming since I haven't kept up, or participated in any PTS events.

Now I have to make the decision on what character I want to play, and do I switch off of Gorfang.  It will be easy to finally gain renown with my BW, and it may revitalize my love for my first main.  I still love my Archmage though, but cranking out forty renown ranks, and acquiring all the gear will still be alot of work than gliding to 80 with my Bright Wizard.

So for now I will be coming back to Warhammer Online.  It will be nice to kiss and make up with all my fellow Warhammer Online bloggers, and the Warhammer Online Community on Wasdstomp.  I have to say I really missed visiting everyone's blogs, interacting on twitter, and all the comments here.

I am still going to post random stuff here on my blog, but I may have to figure out how to use the new page feature so people only see the content they want to see.

Why Tier 1 Beats Tier 4 Content In Warhammer Online

Do you ever wonder why people love the free trial in Warhammer Online?  Is it really the free part, or is it that the game is actually enjoyable?  What does tier 1 offer that tier 4 doesn't?

Tier 1 offers a much more enjoyable play experience than tier 4.  Players are on a much more level playing field.  In Tier 1 you know that almost everyone has equivalent gear unlike tier 4.  It plays a huge part in the fun factor.  You don't have to worry about being 40 renown levels behind another player.  You know that pvp is more about skill than someone having better gear, and stats.

The problem is tier 4 is going to even get worse with the introduction of the increase of renown ranks to 100.  It is going to put even a bigger gap between the veteran players, and the new players.  It is going to make tier 4 quite frustrating for most players.  It not only effects new players, but even veteran players who make new alts.

Initially all the players who are max renown rank played on a basically even playing field while ranking up.  It is much tougher now to gain renown for a fresh rank 40 player.  They are constantly up against players who are twice as strong if not even more.  It means it is going to take alot longer to gain renown if you are dying more than you are killing.

This is where Warhammer Online needs to take a look at there game.  Should there be renown rank brackets for scenarios instead of just all rank 40's being thrown into the same scenarios?  If you are being spawn camped by a guild of RR80's, or RR100's soon enough how much fun is it going to be?

I am sure this is one of the biggest factors on why new players quit the game.  No one likes to play a game where they see too much of a gap between the new, and veteran players.  Can you even imagine the difference between a RR100 player, and a RR40 player?

How do you think they should fix the unbalancing of fresh RR40 players with RR100?

Double Renown: Blessing Or Curse

Once again Warhammer Online is offering double renown, and players are eating it alive.  You would have to be crazy to pass it up.  It is their two year birthday, and what better way to celebrate than offering all their players double renown.

Double renown seems to be more common now.  Are they prepping for the RvR packs, and want more of the playerbase already at RR80?  I am thinking it is their plan.  What good is introducing a RvR pack to expand to RR100 if everyone on average is at RR65-70.

Just like World of Warcraft you want to make sure everyone in the game has experienced the end game.  Otherwise it will be pretty pointless to offer a RR100 RvR pack if no one buys it because they figure it will still take at least 6 months to a year to reach RR80.

I know Warhammer Online has said the RR curve is being leveled out.  Is that going to be good or bad?  I am thinking it is going to be good, but until all the details come out it could end up being bad for lots of new players or alts who are playing the catch up game as it is.

The Double Renown is so sweet.  I can't say I would refuse to login, and not earn it.  I only have two complaints about it that I think are pretty viable reasons.

The first thing I would like to see is a future schedule of Double Renown.  I am sorry, but some of us don't work banker hours with weekends off.  I would like to know weeks, or months in advance.  This would give me the opportunity to get the time off from work to fully exploit the double renown by playing 24/7 for three days straight.

I know Warhammer Online is worried that players would only log in for those dates.  If they are thinking that than maybe they need to examine why players would do that, and fix it.  Everyone knows the RR curve causes severe depression currently, and everyone hates it.

The second thing is Double Renown causes severe withdrawal symptoms.  After a full weekend of earning renown, and seeing your bar move it really motivates you to play the game.  The day they remove the double renown, and play for five hours to see a half of a bubble of progress you just want to ragequit.

If double renown is so popular, and gets players to play than how can they keep the activity so great?

My idea would be to get rid of the stupid scenario warfront that reminds me of watching reruns than offering new content.  How long has it been now, and still some of my personal favorite scenarios still haven't been on it.  I say just ditch the whole thing since it seems that they could care less about offering us a new one every week.

Just make it easy.  I don't care if you make Weekly Double Renown sessions from Friday to Monday, or you offer double renown via a new RvR pack.  You know everyone hates the grind why not fix it?

Does Gear Really Matter?

While playing my Archmage I have started to doubt if gear really matters.  It seems heals are greater than gear.  Do you think it is based more on player skill, and not gear?  Do you think an elite player can still be successful in Warhammer Online with green gear?

I know to a point that green gear will make it harder to be great, but I still think it is very easily doable.  I think players just get in the mindset that they need Annihilator, Conqueror, Invader, Warlord, or Sovereign gear to compete with everyone else in the game.  After playing my Archmage I have to disagree.

I have been in plenty of scenarios with low level players, and we end up getting a dominating win.  I seem to see a trend of alot more healers these days on order.  It makes a huge difference on the outcome of scenarios.

So does gear really matter, or is it really other factors that contribute to either your success or failure?

The Impact Of Assist Trains

Assist trains have become more dominant in Warhammer Online lately.  How many times have you run into a melee /assist train?  It seems to be quite popular these days in scenarios.  Third party addons has made this easymode for any noob in a scenario.

I haven't heard players complaining much about the nerf coming in patch 1.3.6.  Did most players not even see it in the patch notes?  Basically /assist is being removed from being able to be used in third party addons.  I have to say it is about time.

Focus Fire will have a whole new meaning.  No longer will any player be able to have the addon, and wreck havoc on the opposing faction if a few others in the scenario have the same addon by pushing one button.

It will now take more coordination.  Players will actually have to type target names, or call them out on vent.  It will no longer be as easy as typing the person you are assisting into your addon, and firing away with no skills required.

Players will now have to listen, or read while trying to actually find, and  target the player being focused.  No more instagib how did I die that fast garbage with five melee running the same focus /assist addon.

Are you happy about the /assist nerf coming in patch 1.3.6?

Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne closing: server transfers on 12/2

Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne servers closing in WarhammerFinally some news.  I already read the writing on the wall when the EU servers did this a few days ago, and now the US servers.    There are no longer special ruleset servers in Warhammer.  Here is the official announcement from the Herald.

Here at Mythic Entertainment we have always placed a high value on our communities and the players that make them up. This is especially true when it comes to our special rule-set servers like Role-Playing and Open RvR. There are many different things that have to be taken into consideration in order to nurture these communities. At the same time, WAR is a game that thrives on player interaction; whether it’s Public Quests, fast paced Scenario action or the thrill of large-scale Open-field Realm vs. Realm battles. Both of these factors must be taken under consideration when deciding the future of our unique rule-set servers.

For the past 14 months the Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne servers have been the home of two vibrant and passionate communities. We have watched these servers with great interest as they have journeyed through some amazing accomplishments since the launch of WAR, such as the first ever king kill on a North American server.

And so, it is after careful evaluation and much discussion that we are announcing free character transfers off of the Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne servers. At this time we plan to enable these free character transfers on Wednesday, December 2nd. Below are the prospective destination servers for both Phoenix Throne and Dark Crag:

Phoenix Throne will be able to transfer to either Iron Rock OR Badlands

Dark Crag will be able to transfer to either Gorfang OR Volkmar

In order to welcome all of our players to their new homes we will be enabling a 20% bonus to experience and renown during the weeks following the open character transfers.

Have a happy holiday and we’ll see you on the battlefield!

Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to WASDstomp

Welcome to my new general gaming blog.  I decided with my interest in so many new games it would be better to have a general gaming blog instead of a single game niche blog.  I look forward to talking about Aion, Warhammer, World of Warcraft, SWTOR, and other games too.
