WvW Queues Will Kill GW2 Faster Than SWTOR Going F2P

Mark my words. The WvW Queues will kill GW2 faster than SWTOR going F2P. I am sorry, but PvPer's want to PvP, and not sit in queues all day. My Twitter is about to blow up from all the complaints about the queue. Why is this going to cause GW2 to fail?

It is really simple. People play games for certain reasons. They either love PvE, Crafting, or PvP. If PvP is broken than players patience wears thin really quick if that is what they love about a MMO. Who wants to sit in a queue for four hours to play just one WvW game when you live and breathe PvP?

I think no one will stick around for WvW queues. I can imagine just from all the comments from my post yesterday about players taking it slow that a four hour queue just isn't going to cut it. The players who sight see for three hours a week will never get to PvP with those kind of queues. Supposedly players have other priorities other than just sitting in a queue for a straight four hours.  They have families, work, and more.  Most players seem to only play in 1-2 hour sessions if that.

If I actually played GW2 I would be livid.  I only play to PvP. One chance of PvP in a 6-8 hour gaming session would cause me to ragequit immediately. I expect PvP to happen 24/7 whenever I want. I could deal with a 10-15 minute queue, but over four hours is a huge fail whale.

Arenanet better figure this out quickly, or they will be joining City of Zeroes in the unemployment line at the end of the year.

Fix Lag in Guild Wars 2 With Free Download

Are you experiencing lag in Guild Wars 2?  Are you crying when you see your FPS is like a slideshow?  Are you getting owned in the WvW?  Do your instant spells really not feel like they are instacast?  Are you half dead before you realize someone is attacking you?

I feel your pain.  I have a pretty new computer, and one of the higher speed broadband services, and I still cry when I see how bad my lag was in Guild Wars 2.  Believe me.  I have tried everything to reduce my latency, and fix my lag in Guild Wars 2.  I have updated my drivers, defrag my hard drive, fix registry errors, run virus and malware programs, and I still would get the same lag.

I than discovered this free download that reduces lag, and made my Guild Wars 2 gaming experience very enjoyable.  I went from a FPS slideshow to very smooth gameplay.  You would have to be crazy to not use this free download to fix any lag you have in Guild Wars 2.

What are you waiting for?  Download it for free right now before you respawn in the graveyard again.

Guild Wars 2 Launch Is Still At Least A Year Away

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but Guild Wars 2 is still at least a year away from launching.  After reading a post on Google + that it was coming out next month I decided to do some investigating.  I have no idea where this person came up with this information, but it couldn't be any farther from the truth.

It just wasn't making sense to me that there wasn't even an announced closed beta, or open beta.  It just doesn't sound like how MMORPG's prepare for launch. I thought maybe they had a very strict NDA that didn't even permit you to say you were testing.

There was only one way to find out the truth.  I listened to the whole Q3 Earnings call for NCSoft which was November 10, 2011.  I am still in shock the information they disclose on these calls.  It was very informative in all aspects of their gaming business.

It has been confirmed that closed beta will start by the end of this year.  The scary part is when he said hopefully Guild Wars 2 will be ready for launch by the end of next year.  He didn't sound completely confident that it would even make launch next year.

It is so hard to believe that the game is still that far away from launch.  You play it at PAX, and you find it so visually appealing you think it was coming out next week.

Can you wait another year for Guild Wars 2?  Did you think it was still that far from launch?  Feel free to comment, and join the interactive discussion on Google +.

I Got My Guild Wars 2 Beta Invite Last Night

Finally.  I am so excited right now.  I stayed up all night downloading Guild Wars 2 beta, and I played it for 8 hours straight.  I am going on no sleep, but all I can say it is totally worth it.  I already cancelled my Rift subscription.  I am so glad I got my Guild Wars 2 Beta invite.  I knew this was the game I have been waiting for.

I can't really say much else right now because of the NDA so my posts may slow down a little because I am going to be too busy playing the Guild Wars 2 beta every chance I get.  If anyone else received their invite I am on the Yule beta server with the name Lucky.

Marketing 101 For MMORPG's

I have been a little frustrated with the marketing of my favorite games lately.  Is it really that hard to market a mmorpg?  Why is the marketing budget so small for a game that has invested so much time, and money?

Everyone can see the marketing power of PAX.  The thought of being able to play a game that is in early beta, or not even beta yet is the greatest.  Players love it.  Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool out there.  Why wouldn't you want to let as many players as possible get there hands on the game?

Pax unfortunately only lasts a few days, and than players are left suffering from withdrawal symptoms until they either get accepted to beta, or the game finally releases.

I wouldn't leave players hanging like that.  You can't give players a taste, and than expect them to go cold turkey.  They need something that keeps them talking about your game.

If at PAX your demo is playable than why not just let players keep playing it?  The fifteen to thirty minute demo, and up to two hour wait is worth it most of the time, but most players are yearning for more.

If I was in charge of the marketing department I would take the AOL approach.  Remember how that company grew just by giving away free cd's?  These mmorpg companies need to do the same.  I am not saying giving away your whole game, but give players an opportunity to take it home, and play it in the comfort of there own home.

How great of marketing would it be that during PAX you handed out 66k worth of free demo cd's to Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, AC Brotherhood, Dragonage 2, and so on just like how AOL used to have free cd's everywhere you looked?  Why not let players play this limited version of the game until it comes out?

The best salesman will always tell you that you can sell anything once the product is in the persons hand.  Why are mmorpg companies failing to hook people by putting the product in their hands?

I think mmorpg companies are really missing the boat on how to market games.  What do you think?

My Top Five Games From PAX

Rift Planes of Telara
I spent this last Friday at PAX.  I have to say it was better than even I imagined.  It was just great to see, and play games.  It truly makes a difference on your decision making.  I found some games I never even knew about, but are now on my list of games to buy.

The top of my list goes to Guild Wars 2.   The game is just fun to play.  The graphics are amazing.  It is the first MMO that really makes you feel like you are making a difference.  I couldn't find any flaws with game, or find a reason to not like the game.  I think this game will definitely make a huge impact in the mmorpg genre.  If I somehow get selected for this beta I will play it till my fingers blister up, pop, and blister on top of the old blister.

The next game on my list is Rift Planes of Telara.  I spent three different sessions playing this game.  Each time I fell in love with the game more, and more.  Of course it is hard to judge a game in such a small little bit of time, but for me games are mostly a love at first sight.  I either like a game, or don't in the first few minutes of playing.  Fortunately I snagged a few beta keys, and will be downloading the beta, and having a contest to give away the others.

The third game on my list is Tera.  It is another mmorpg with amazing graphics.  They will have world pvp servers, battlegrounds, and arena fighting.  It sounds like my type of pvp game.  I signed up for the beta, and talked quite a while with the dev.  I enjoyed this booth the most because it wasn't like a swarm of bees hovering around, and I could ask lots of questions.  The dev said I was the only one the whole day that actually asked detailed questions about the game.  This MMO shouldn't be overlooked.  I think it is going to be a good one.

My fourth game on my list is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.  I have never played a game like this, and I didn't actually play it at PAX because I didn't want to look like a noob playing it.  I was mesmerized by other players playing it though.  I just love the killing part in that game.  It is so gruesome, and brutal.  The graphics seem so realistic.

My fifth game on my list is not SWTOR, but instead Star Wars Force Unleashed II.  The game should seemed full of action, and killing.  Playing it was just so exciting, and fun.  I guess sometimes a game like this is a great game to play when you need a break from the grind of an mmorpg.

Guild Wars 2 Hype Machine

The hype for Guild Wars 2 this week is sky high.  I think it would be nearly impossible to not have heard about the Guild Wars 2 Manifesto video.  I believe almost every blogger posted about it.  Some like it, some don't, and some don't want to be let down.

All the different posts about Guild Wars 2 definitely let me see how people feel about the game.  In case you were in a cave this week I will share with you some of the posts throughout blogland.

Guild Wars 2 Is Unbelievable

Guild Wars 2 released a new video today.  All I can say is it is unbelievable.  I really see it giving World of Warcraft a run for its money.  The game just seems amazing, and just when I think it couldn't get any better it does.

The hype for Guild Wars 2 is reeling me in quick.  I feel like I have lost all interest in SWTOR.  I just love the way they are changing the way MMORPG's are going to be.  It is going to be so exciting.

I just hope I get a beta invite.  I am hungry for that MMORPG like the old days where I would literally stay up for days, go to work on two hours sleep, and basically never leave my computer the first few months after launch.  I really think this game is going to do it.

I know Arenanet is going to be at PAX West, and I can't wait to be able to play the game at there booth.  I may spend my whole day glued to their booth.  I plan on trying to persuade them to give me a beta invite.  If after September 3rd you don't hear from me you will know I am so involved in playing the guild wars 2 beta that I don't even have time to blog, or twitter.

Here is the stunning Guild Wars 2 Manifesto.  Enjoy the awesomeness.

Why I Will Play A Caster In Guild Wars 2

How fast do you think a caster is going to gain levels compared to melee in Guild Wars 2? You would have to be crazy to not play a caster.

I love how they are implementing that if you do any damage to a mob you get full xp for the mob. How easy is it going to be to go AoE spec during the leveling process, and level up lightning fast?

I could just run across the zone spamming AoE on every mob, and than just sit back, and wait for the xp to roll in as other players do 95% of the damage to the mob.

Will this eventually piss off other players? How could a melee player be happy about this? There is no way they are going to be able to keep up with the leveling of casters.

Will this be used to exploit leveling up alts later on. What would stop a level 1 caster going with a max level character to a zone, and spraying mobs with AoE while the max level character kills the mobs. It sounds like you would be able to powerlevel your alts in record time.

Guild Wars 2 has been on my radar for a few months, and it seems like it is catching on like wildfire now among the blogging community. Check out Heartless Gamer ,Bio Break, and Scarybooster.

It will be all about timing now. Who will release something first SWTOR, Cataclysm, WAR expansion, or Guild Wars 2?

I think most players are hungry for their next fix, and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

6 Reasons Guild Wars 2 is now on my Radar

After seeing the most recent Guild Wars 2 trailer today I suddenly put this game on my radar.  The game looks really amazing.  I can think of five reasons I will buy this game when it's released.

Races

The races seem very interesting.  It is not the same old races you find in every other MMO.  You can choose between Charr, Sylvari, Norn, Asura, and Human.  I think I want to play a Charr.

Free to Play

Just like in Guild Wars this game will be free to play.  No monthly subscriptions to pay to be able to play this game.  The great thing about it is you know there will always be expansions, and new content because that is how they make money.

PvP at all Levels

It will be similar to the original Guild Wars where in the PvP instanced zones everyone will be the same level, have access to the same skills, and etc.  How can you not like that?

Sidekick System

They are implementing a sidekick system that players and friends of varying levels will be able to do content together.  I guess it will be like how it works in City of Heroes.  It sounds like a great way to get friends to play doesn't it?

Underwater Zones

There will be underwater zones.  They are eliminating drowning, etc that you find in most other traditional MMO's.  This sounds pretty similar to what we saw in the Aion vision trailer.

Soloable to Max Level

You will be able to reach max level without ever joining a group.  It is always reassuring knowing that if groups aren't available that you will still be able to progress in leveling.  Leveling will also be anti grind which is always a plus in my book.
