Am I Too Old For PvP?

This question keeps popping in my head lately.  I used to love PvP.  Why does it frustrate the heck out of me now?  Why does PvP just not seem as fun any longer?  Am I just getting too old for PvP?

Lately I have been testing for a game in beta that is centered around PvP, and I just want to ragequit. Have I lost my patience?  Have I lost my touch?  Should I just stick to PvE?  It just seems lately that no matter what I end up in a pug that is a bunch of noobs.  Can't players these day read objectives?  Do players these days have their own agendas?

I think the biggest thing that has ruined PvP is scoreboards, leaderboards, or whatever you want to call them.  It makes players want to do their own thing instead of working as a team.  It is just frustrating to me. In the vanilla WoW days it was all about teamwork, and guild pride.  These days it is all about I had the most damage, or I outhealed all of you.

Do I just need to find some like minded PvP players, and create a premade?  I am still not sure if PvP is still my thing.  I am not getting any younger these days, and I am sure my reflexes have slowed down since my DAOC, and early WoW days.

Would I enjoy it with a bunch of friends on vent even if we win or lose?  I think that may be the secret to loving PvP.  In prior games I always had a group of friends to PvP with, and had no problem working together on vent.  It just seems I have lost the ability to make friends online in games like I used too.

I think when I play SWTOR I am going to play on PvE server, and see if maybe I enjoy it more these days than PvP.

It is weird though I still have the itch to try PvP games.  I still want to try out Primus, and L2 once it goes free to play.

Can You Get Better At PvP?

What makes a great pvper?  Is it skills?  It it playing an OP class?  What makes great pvpers stand out more than a casual pvper?  Why does it seem the great pvper's always know what spell to cast?  Where do they learn this from?  Does practice actually make you a better pvper?

Why am I bringing this up about being a better pvper?  I recently read an article where top notch pvpers are now offering one on one personal training for an hourly rate.  Would you pay $100 if it made you a better pvper, and made your Kill:Death ratio much better?

Is PvP really teachable in short hourly sessions?  I personally think a great pvper has alot of knowledge stored, and I am not sure that can be taught.  I figure most great pvper's know every class in the game inside, and out.  They know most spell rotations, the animations of incoming attacks, and they have practiced these fights in their heads over, and over.

I am sure great pvper's dedicate alot of time to duels until they get to a point where they know how to win every time.  I have never been a duel person which probably is why I am not a great pvper, and when I do duel I die so fast.

Can you teach someone to instantly know what class to kill first?  Is it different every time?  Do great pvpers always know who the weakest pvper is in the group almost instantly?  Can this skill really be taught?

I Will Be Playing Rift Warfronts All Weekend

Once again I will be beta testing Rift this weekend.  It will be my first taste of PvP in the game.  I am really excited to see how it all works.  Rift Warfronts from the outside looking in looks like a Battleground, or Scenario from World of Warcraft, or Warhammer Online.

I am really looking forward to teaming up with Oak, Zezzle, and Hedgewick in the Warfronts.  I hope we make tons of Guardians cry themselves to sleep this weekend when we destroy them in pvp.  I think our group setup will be pretty deadly to anyone who tries to fight us.

I will be getting plenty of sleep tonight to ensure some long gaming sessions this weekend.  I really want to see the PvP since 99% of my MMO gaming consists of playing PvP.  In prior Rift betas I have checked out some of the PvP gear, and it is simply amazing.  How does it compare to PvE gear?  No idea since we have no level 50 PvE gear to compare the PvP gear too.

Will I be giving up World of Warcraft to play Rift?  Yes without a doubt.  I have a hard time playing multiple games, and I like to devote all my time into the game I love the most.  Of course I will still play WoW until the Rift launch, but it will definitely be unsubbed as the release date of Rift inches closer.

I Can't Decide What Class To Play In Cataclysm

It is literally killing me.  I can't decide what class I am playing in Cataclysm.  Every class seems great until I go in the battlegrounds, and eat dirt for dinner.  Have I lost my pvp touch?  Are players just that much better at PvP these days?  Is it just my gear?  Are the other players twinks?

Whatever the case may be it is making me very crazy.  I think I am loving my class choice, and the next thing you know I want to /ragedelete it.  Every class has its strongpoints, and I need to just stick one out.

I initially rolled a Druid.  In PvE I am killing stuff in 1.2 seconds flat.  It seems like easy mode.  I love playing Feral while leveling up.  I get into the battleground, and I can't seem to kill an AFK caster.  It just doesn't make any sense.  At low levels it isn't to tough to spam 2-3 spells.

My next character is a Warlock.  Once again in PvE I am a mob killing machine.  I can kill stuff so fast.  I get into the battlegrounds, and Worgen Rogues can almost one shot me.  The problem is that is all there is in the battlegrounds.  You have Worgen Rogues, and Druids.  It sucks the fun out of my warlock so fast.

I decide to go back to my main character I played in Vanilla which is a priest.  I forgot how frustrating this class is to pve with.  You can't kill anything in less than a minute, and even with heals you find yourself dead alot.  In PvP in the battlegrounds though it seems priests are pretty deadly.  I guess SWP just is a sneaky dot that kills you without realizing it.  Add a little mind flay, and you are leading the killing blows.

My next character is a Hunter.  I literally think they are god mode in pve, and pvp.  I want to strangle every hunter I see with the string from their bows.  It is to unrealistic how fast they can shoot these bows.  They kill people so fast.  I haven't been in a battleground yet as one, but I definitely cry myself to sleep when one decides to kill me over and over in one.  You know something isn't right when they can kill three on one almost every time.

So for now I am still undecided which class to consider my main, and will be leveling up all four until one ends up being the class I have the most fun playing.

RvE Is Back After Patch 1.4 Has Worn Off After Two Weeks

Yes.  You can say you heard it here first.   It wasn't too long ago that I wrote that after the newness of the Orvr changes wore off players would go back to their old ways.  Players aren't stupid, and will earn renown the easiest way possible.

It is happening exactly how I predicted.  What did I predict?  I predicted that players from Destruction, and Order would avoid each other in different zones to maximize renown.  Every player knows that with diminishing returns that a keep defense or zone defense is worth little renown after you have killed everyone 2-3 times.

Any player knows that maximum renown is acquired by flipping zones.  Why bother defending when you can earn ten times as much renown with a flip?

So what happened to all this great fighting in the zones again?  First players realized keep defenses and attacks are pretty boring now.  The Skaven are like new girlfriends.  After a week or two they are just like any other girlfriend.  The newness is gone, and it is just the same old stuff.

Players don't care about defending.  After all the crying about nerfed cities after sieges there is no penalty any longer if the other side wins.  No realm pride in the least bit.  Actually now in region chat you hear let them get to the city.  No one cares.  Everyone just wants there next three tiers of gear.

It is pretty sad to think we waited over two years for the RvR packs to breathe new life into RvR, and it lasted a whole two weeks.  What needs to be done to fix it?

I think really there is only one way to fix it.  Only one pairing unlocks at a time.  This ensures everyone is fighting in the same zone, and not Destruction in Dwarf, and Order in Empire.

As bad as it hurts there needs to be penalties for losing.  The problem in WAR is with two factions if one side always loses eventually everyone quits, and the server dies.  I know it is beating a dead horse, but a third faction needs to be implemented maybe into a Tier 5 zone.

Mailbox, and Keep camping are probably worse than before.  With all the resource ticks it is just too easy to hang out in either one, and collect renown without any fighting.

In Summary I think removing diminishing returns in Orvr will entice players to fight.  I would like to see the equal splitting of renown removed so if player a,b, and c kill a player they all receive full renown for that kill, and not 33% each.  The pairing lockdown I think also needs to happen.

What do you think about patch 1.4, and the RvR packs two weeks later?

League Of Legends Rocks

I am writing this post, and thinking about how miserable I am going to be the next few days.  After discovering League of Legends I just can't stop playing.  The game is so addiciting, and I am without internet until Friday because I am in the process of moving.

How can this game be this great?  It doesn't feel like a grind.  You actually have fun the whole time you are playing.    It is just 100% fun.

I am currently playing some different caster types, and it just rocks.  I highly recommend League of Legends to anyone currently suffering from GRS.  I know with the Double Renown withdrawal symptoms kicking in that League of Legends is the perfect fix.

It is extremely rare that I like a game this much.  Seriously anyone that has been reading my blog over the last year knows I am usually ripping some game, or patch apart.

Simply there is nothing to complain about so far in the game.  I have found nothing that provokes me to ragequit, and break keyboards.  It is fun 100% of the time.

I mean what is the odds that I find a game that is free, and it is the best game I have ever played?  I am probably drooling from my mouth right now as you read this as I try to cope with my internet withdrawal, and playing LoL.

I can't stress enough if you love PvP than you will instantly orgasm when you play League of Legends.

What are you waiting for?  Download it right now since it is free.  I will look forward to battles with you, or against you in the very near future.
