RvE Is Back After Patch 1.4 Has Worn Off After Two Weeks

Yes.  You can say you heard it here first.   It wasn't too long ago that I wrote that after the newness of the Orvr changes wore off players would go back to their old ways.  Players aren't stupid, and will earn renown the easiest way possible.

It is happening exactly how I predicted.  What did I predict?  I predicted that players from Destruction, and Order would avoid each other in different zones to maximize renown.  Every player knows that with diminishing returns that a keep defense or zone defense is worth little renown after you have killed everyone 2-3 times.

Any player knows that maximum renown is acquired by flipping zones.  Why bother defending when you can earn ten times as much renown with a flip?

So what happened to all this great fighting in the zones again?  First players realized keep defenses and attacks are pretty boring now.  The Skaven are like new girlfriends.  After a week or two they are just like any other girlfriend.  The newness is gone, and it is just the same old stuff.

Players don't care about defending.  After all the crying about nerfed cities after sieges there is no penalty any longer if the other side wins.  No realm pride in the least bit.  Actually now in region chat you hear let them get to the city.  No one cares.  Everyone just wants there next three tiers of gear.

It is pretty sad to think we waited over two years for the RvR packs to breathe new life into RvR, and it lasted a whole two weeks.  What needs to be done to fix it?

I think really there is only one way to fix it.  Only one pairing unlocks at a time.  This ensures everyone is fighting in the same zone, and not Destruction in Dwarf, and Order in Empire.

As bad as it hurts there needs to be penalties for losing.  The problem in WAR is with two factions if one side always loses eventually everyone quits, and the server dies.  I know it is beating a dead horse, but a third faction needs to be implemented maybe into a Tier 5 zone.

Mailbox, and Keep camping are probably worse than before.  With all the resource ticks it is just too easy to hang out in either one, and collect renown without any fighting.

In Summary I think removing diminishing returns in Orvr will entice players to fight.  I would like to see the equal splitting of renown removed so if player a,b, and c kill a player they all receive full renown for that kill, and not 33% each.  The pairing lockdown I think also needs to happen.

What do you think about patch 1.4, and the RvR packs two weeks later?

Last Night On Gorfang

I took a nap, and logged into Warhammer Online much later than I normally do.  I have today off from work so I was able to play until the early morning hours.

Destruction was pushing to the city.  They had Empire locked, and close to locking Dwarf.  We had some great fights in Kadrin Valley.

A group of four guildmates went venturing around looking for fights.  We were getting some pretty good renown.  It was fun, and broke up the normal monotony of RvR.

They were getting closer and closer to getting our keep.  I am not sure what was going on, but the keep door wasn't moving.  The rams kept getting damaged.

We just wanted to go defend the city.  Empire was getting closer, and closer to unlocking.  Destruction had about 30% to go on the door, and Empire was unlocking in five minutes.  It was a huge race.

In a way it would be funny to see it unlock thirty seconds before they took the Kadrin Valley, but we wanted the city just as much as Destro.

The door gets to about 1%, and the ram breaks again.  I am not sure how they managed, but they got another ram up pretty quickly, and took the keep.  We stood at hardwater waiting for the flip.  The anticipation was killing us.

It takes around thirty seconds for the zone to flip after a keep, and the timer on Empire ran out about 15 seconds earlier.  It seemed like hours waiting, and waiting for it to either flip, or for it to unlock Empire.  It was the closest I have ever seen the two.

Luckily the flip finally comes, and we get to the city.  We luckily were able to farm two instances pretty easily, but the third one we got stuck fighting a premade destro warband.  It was fine.  We all got a few more pieces of gear so losing wasn't so bad.

Warhammer Online RvR Pack, and Patch 1.4 Experience Day 1

I really wonder about so many players that play the game.  Why aren't they more involved with the game?  I just don't understand how players who have been playing the game for two years don't read blogs, don't visit the forums, and lastly don't read the patch notes.

It just seems so crazy on how many uninformed players there are when a new patch hits.  I don't know maybe it is just all the Gorfang Order idiots running around that slow boils my blood.  I swear not one player knew how the new Orvr worked.  How can you as a player never go on the PTS, read any Warhammer Online blogs, the Bioware/Mythic forums, and basically play the game blindfolded?

Orvr was totally frustrating.  No one knew how to do anything.  I tried to give cliff note versions in region chat, but players were just idiots.  After one zone flip I decided I would just resort to my old ways, and just play scenarios all day, and night.

Unfortunately pugging scenarios was very frustrating also.  I am not sure how the matchmaking system works, but I think after doing about thirty scenarios I have a pretty good idea.  It seems I ended up being in a pug while up against all decked out RR80 players.  I would see them leave the scenario with 15k renown, and the Order players would be lucky to get 1k from being spawn camped by Gin and Jooz, W C W, Arsenal, and so many other Destruction Elite premades.

I than decided to participate in the Altdorf defense.  I either got lucky, or something because things went alot better inside the city.  I won a gold, purple, purple bag from each of the stages.  I racked up an incredible amount of renown.  I say if it wasn't for the city I would have possibly ragequit after one day of being back.

Losing is not fun.  I don't mind have a close fight, and losing.  The problem is premades are making my gaming experience unbearable by making my rage build up rather quickly by farming us over, and over.  I have never seen so many bad players on one server.  I am not a pro, but I could take the twenty worst players from WoW, and do better in a scenario with them.

First Glimpse Population Numbers For RvR Pack, and Patch 1.4

I did a quick Census of all the servers about an hour after the servers opened up live with patch 1.4, and the RvR packs.  Of course this is early for most servers, and will do some more later tonight as it gets to US peak hours to play.

The early numbers so far which only include one faction on each server.  Badlands 390, Gorfang 190, Iron Rock 214, Volkmar 140, Athel Loren 439, Carroburg 249, Drakenwald 440, Azgal 757, Norn 721.

I figure the numbers will really get rocking once everyone gets home to get the patch downloaded, and purchase the RvR packs.

Feel free to download the Census Addon, and help submit data.

Playing Around On The PTS

I am still trying to figure everything out for all the upcoming changes coming Thursday for Patch 1.4, and the release of the RvR Packs.  I spent some quality time basically running around on the PTS today trying everything out.

The PTS events sometimes seems a little hectic, and puggish.  It was nice today to roam the PTS server basically by myself to visually implant in my mind how everything works.  I think I now have a pretty good grasp on the ORvR changes.

I took all the battlefield objectives, and watched the keep eventually get to Rank 5.  I think I could of flipped the zone all by myself, but I couldn't figure out how to drop the ram once I picked it up, and went to the keep.

I flew around on the gryphon riders, and I don't see myself ever doing it once it goes live.  I can see it as an easy way to get to the keep if you hurl yourself off, but otherwise the bombing, and stuff didn't excite me too much.

I believe I understand how the Skaven work, and the new TI dungeon.

I definitely like the changes, and initially will be involved with ORvR.  The problem is I still love just doing scenarios.  With the matchmaking system it could make them even more fun.

Skaven Or Worgen?

Skaven or Worgen is the question of the day.  Will the official release date of Cataclysm lure away the Skaven players to World of Warcraft to play Worgen?  Is playing a Worgen still better than the implementation of the Skaven in Warhammer Online?  Will patch 1.4, and the RvR packs keep players in Warhammer, and not jump ship to Cataclysm?

It isn't a tough question for me to answer.  I am no huge lore buff, and I just want to play a character that is different than most other classes.  So for me it is real easy to choose a Worgen over a Skaven.  I just want to play a class that looks cool.  I know a Worgen is a Werewolf, and Skaven are Rats, but  I want to actually have a character that I can progress from level one.

I know I will be able to play a Skaven in Warhammer Online, but it won't even be a real class.  It is basically going to be a temporary skin for RvR.  It will have no personalization, progression, or power which seems to be the focus of the RvR packs, but Skaven will have none of that.

I have already made my decision, and I am choosing playing a Worgen over a Skaven.    What is your choice?

How Skaven Could Be Implemented As The Third Faction

I know.  I am beating a dead horse, but after reading an interview from Guild Wars 2 devs it gave me this great idea.  Guild Wars 2  plans on implementing server vs server vs server world pvp.  They say it is the next progressive step after DAOC.  Can you believe someone is actually making a three realm war, and making it better than DAOC?   It sounds great.

I want to take this three server pvp system to Warhammer Online.  How can it be implemented into the game, and not cause five million hours of making content?  How could you do server vs server wars in Warhammer Online?  Would it even be possible?

I brainstormed for a while, and I basically couldn't figure out a way where you could pit three servers against each other in the way Warhammer Online is currently set up.  Anyone have an idea that may work?

I did think of way it could work with Skaven.  They keep saying you are going to be able to play Skaven, but not like a normal class starting at level 1.

This whole three server pvp thing really put my brainstorming into full throttle mode.  I figured with the introduction of the rvr packs, and Skaven how could they make this fun?

I think it could work if players from other servers choose the personality RvR pack.  This pack would enable you to play Skaven on any server other than your own.  Your whole objective would be to be ported to a server to help the underdog faction.

You would have no server affiliation, but you would be able to have fun in the game knowing you were stopping a faction from locking a zone, or going to the city.  I think it would break up the monotony of the renown grind.

Would players be excited about playing Skaven like this?  At any time you could choose to play a Skaven on another server to help the underdog faction.

I think it could work, and I hope this is what is already in the plans for the RvR packs.  How about you?

That Is So Skaven

Skaven this, Skaven that.  Skaven is definitely the hot topic these days for Warhammer Online.  Where will the tunnels lead us?  Are Skaven the missing piece for RvR?

I feel like a crime scene investigator these days.  I keep trying to put bits, and pieces together like a murder scene.  Does it feel that way to you?  I think instead of the killer (Mythic) coming forward, and giving exact details on how it happened investigators (Bloggers)  have to take whatever they can pick up to piece the whole story together.

I am still trying to figure out how both factions are going to be able to play.  Is there going to be confusion on the battlefield when it is rat on rat.  Of course enemies will be red, but it is still pretty unclear on how it is all going to work.

I read yesterday that the Skaven will sort of be like a third faction, but played by players of your own faction.  Will this cause faction griefing?  I know players thought that would be the case when I suggest AoE friendly fire so what if I decide to convert to Skaven, and kill my own faction?  Is that how it is going to work?

It is still up in the air exactly how, but we do know it is not a normal playable class.  We know it isn't going to be an npc third faction like Balaur in Aion.  It doesn't leave many more options.  I don't see the point of just playing a Skaven on both factions just because.

Is this where the Power RvR pack comes into play.  It enables you to play a Skaven in RvR?  Will it change your spells, and stats?

Skaven sounds like it is always going to be part of the new RvR dungeon.  I am trying to think how that is going to work.  When I hear RvR dungeon the first thing that comes to mind is Darkness Falls in Dark Age of Camelot.  If they implement it like that instead of the lame way of LoTD it is going to be exciting.  Darkness Falls in Daoc was a blast.

As more and more details slowly come out we will be able to piece it together like a jigsaw puzzle.  I am going to PAX, and I am not sure if Warhammer Online is making any kind of appearance there or not.

Will We Know Anything More After This Weekend?

That is currently the million dollar question for Warhammer Online.  It is driving me crazy the last few months getting a hint here or there, but never concrete answers.  Mythic keeps talking about GDB so now lets see what happens.
I know personally I am going to be pretty pissed off if they don't start elaborating on things.  How can it be good for the game to leave everything to speculation?  Why not just come out, and explain everything?
I better know exactly what each RvR pack does, what the new zone entails, how Skaven are being implemented in the game, and exactly how the new renown ranks are going to work by the end of the GDB event.

What Does Renown Rank 100 Mean?

Today Mythic announced an rvr pack, and that renown ranks are going up to 100.  Can someone stick a gun to my head, and pull the trigger?  Is it going to keep players in the game longer?

I hate the thought of another twenty levels to grind out of renown.  I also heard they are leveling out the renown curve which will be really nice.  Does this mean 100 levels will be equal to what 80 is now?  I think it may be smart to hold off on the renown grind if it may get easier.

The announcement makes you wonder about alot of stuff.  Are they adding more rvr sets of armor?  How are they going to incorporate more when supposedly killing the king is end game?  What is the point of multiple sets of sovereign if it won't be the best after this expansion?  Will they just possibly up the requirements to wear the rvr sets?  I think that wouldn't make sense either to do that.

Will the new RvR pack introduce a new Tier 5 zone where they can introduce the Skaven into the mix for a third faction without having to blow up the whole game?  Will Skaven be an unlock at Renown Rank 80 or 100 to keep players playing?  Would a Tier 5 revamp of the RvR zone be the answer to the boredom of Orvr currently?

Will raising the renown rank to 100 kill Tier 4 like the other lower tiers?  Will all that content almost become obsolete?

I hope the new RvR pack is the answer to Warhammer Online, and makes Orvr fun.  Otherwise grinding renown to 100 will drive most players to quit if they have to end up grinding keeps, and bo's for another year.

I know right now the news is kind of vague, but actually caught me by surprise on how much they really are working on making this game better.  Now it is just the waiting game to see how it all pans out.

Blood Bowl

After spending this last week barely in Warhammer Online I decided it was time to try something new.  I ventured to the store looking for that one game to jump out at me.  I saw so many games, but none were really catching my eye.

Finally I saw Blood Bowl, and figured I have heard of it before.  What a surprise.  It is based on Warhammer.  I never knew that.  Anyways I am a huge sports fan, and after looking at the cover I decided to buy it.

I finished installing it, and rushed to try it out.  I soon realized it is not something you can just rush into.  I had no idea about anything, and failed miserably at trying to figure out.  The game seems simple enough, but I will actually read the manual tomorrow, and try it again.

Blood Bowl looks like it is going to be a really fun game, and a change of pace from my typical MMORPG.  How can you not like playing currently unplayable classes in Warhammer Online like Skaven, Lizardmen, and more.

I now see why players keep wanting those classes put into the game.  They are so cool looking compared to the normal boring players currently in the game.

Hopefully for the next few weeks I will be playing Blood Bowl, and getting good enough to try matches online with other players.

Anyone else play Blood Bowl, and willing to teach a rookie on the game mechanics?  Should I play real time or turn based?  Can someone help me figure out the player selection part?  If you can help me out please leave a comment below.
