DragonNest Is Fun

I know about six months ago I talked about this game. It is hitting the spot for me right now. It has everything I want in a game, and more. What is the game all about?

The game is a true mix of genres. I feel it is a cross between Diablo 3, Kingdoms of Amalur, and an MMO. It has all the best qualities of each rolled up into one. The best part is it is free to play.

Nexon just added a new ranged class called the Tinkerer to add to the Warrior, Sorceress, Cleric, and Archer. There is a class for every type of play style.

What is it about this game that makes it unique? I have to say the grind. It isn't the typical go kill bears, and bring me back the skins. You are killing lots of things in an instanced quest, and you get to kill named bosses from level one.

The combat is like most RPG's similar to Diablo 3 where you are killing 3-5 mobs at a time, or more. It isn't the same old boring two minute long fights to kill one mob. It is fast action, and it doesn't feel like you are playing an MMO.

It is an MMO though. You can co-op any instance,
and choose the difficulty level so you never get stuck not being able to progress. You have the bank, auction house, merchants, professions just like an MMO. You even have PvP, but I haven't experienced it yet.

This game is very fun so far, and in just one sitting I progressed further than I did back in October when I initially tried it out. If you are looking for some fun than you can find me on the Elena server with my new Warrior called Livita.

Are Other Gaming Companies Watching Dragon Nest?

I wonder if any devs from some of the bigger gaming companies are watching what Dragon Nest is doing? I love what they are doing with this game.  I just received an email with an announcement of  new end game content, and a new highest level boss to kill which is a three headed Hell Hound.

If only that was the only good news, but actually they are doing something even better.  Are you listening WAR devs?  They have introduced a new seasonal Ghoul PvP instance.  It is a 16 man FFA last man standing ruleset.  It gets even better.  You aren't killing each other, but turning everyone into Ghouls.  The last person to remain without being turned into a Ghoul wins.

Doesn't that sound fun compared to the normal same old kill, kill, and kill?  WAR players have been asking for a scenario similar to this for a few years now.  Everyone wants to play an all Chicken scenario.  It would just be some quirky fun every once in a while.  I know one time we did it in the Nordenwatch RvR area.  It was a blast going around pecking each other.

Everyone keeps talking that they are looking for an MMORPG that changes the genre.  You don't have to look any further.  The best part is it is also free to play, and in three months I have never bought anything from the store.  I say download it, and give it a shot.  I promise you that you will love all the game mechanics.

Fighting The Urge

What urge am I fighting?  The urge to spend money on a free to play game.  I was doing just fine playing Dragon Nest for free until today.  What made it change?  Why do I feel like spending money on Dragon Nest?

They lured me in.  I had no interest in even looking at the cash shop.  There wasn't even a temptation too. I figured it was just a bunch of junk I wouldn't want to waste my money on anyways.  How did they lure me in?

Well it was real easy.  I saw a message that I had a new item in the Dragon Vault.  I had no idea what the Dragon Vault was.  I actually went to my storage thinking it was something in there.  Eventually out of the corner of my eye I saw it say press F11 for the Dragon Vault.  It went downhill from there.

I see so much stuff I want to buy, but so far my wallet is still in my back pocket.  I am not sure how long I can hold out there.  Who can resist faster potions, more inventory space, armor, resurrection scrolls, and more.

I am a little scared to see what the conversion rate is for some of this stuff.  Right now all I know is things cost from 1k to 9k coins.  I have no idea how much the coins cost, but something tells me I am going to find out soon enough.

Dragon Nest You Pissed Me Off Tonight

I have been loving the game Dragon Nest.  A great story, and I get to fight cool boss mobs in every dungeon that I solo.  I usually just play on easy mode just so I can breeze through the dungeons.

Tonight was going pretty good.  I figured since they were offering increased loot, and xp today that I would play for a few hours.  I was having a great time.  I was progressing, and enjoying myself.

That would soon come to a screeching halt.  I get to the Temple of Sleepers, and I keep dying on the final boss.  Unlike the other dungeons where I could just rez myself in the middle of the fight when I die I have to go back to town, and start all the way from the beginning.

After the fourth time of failing to kill the stupid cow I decided to ragequit for the night.  The most frustrating part is you only get xp once you complete the dungeon.  What does that mean?  It means for four dungeon crawls I received nothing for all my efforts.

Tomorrow is a new day, and I am going to slaughter that cow, and make me a big fat juicy ribeye out of him.

Is Dragon Nest A MMORPG?

Yesterday after hanging out on Google+ most of the day a few players were talking about Dragon Nest.  I took a quick look at it, and decided it was worth the download.  I believe the game is being marketed as an MMO, but is it really?

I feel that the game has a Guild Wars, and Fable type of gameplay.  Others say it is more like Diablo 2.  I never played Diablo so I will take their word for it.  It seems more of an online RPG.

The game is pretty straightforward as you start off in your town.  You have your trainer, auction house, crafter, vendor, and everything located there.

Questing is pretty simple.  You have a directional arrow showing you where to go, and how far.  No wasting time trying to figure out if you are in the right spot for a quest.  Most of the quests involve dungeon instances.  You can select the difficulty, and enter.

The part I love is you can solo, and I don't think there is really a holy trinity needed.  If you form a group it is just more people killing stuff together.  I am playing a Sorcerer, and I like that I have spells, and melee.  I can mix it up, and I don't have to be an expert to kill stuff.  The combat is similar to Fable for me.  You are killing all kinds of mobs, taking little damage, and fighting pretty cool boss fights right from the start.

I had this one boss fight with a Bull.  It was fun.  He would charge you like a real bull, try to horn you, and stuff.  He kept charging me, and send me flying backwards, and knock me down.  I experienced my first death in the fight, but like Fable you just rez right on the spot, and finish the fight.  No stupid running back, and starting the fight from scratch again.

I completed many dungeons already, and killed cool bosses.  I am almost level 7.  I have never had this much fun leveling a character.  It doesn't feel like a kill ten rat grind.  You are having fights in dungeons, and having fun killing stuff while gaining xp.  Who could ask for anything more?

Another thing I like about the game is when you are comparing drops with what you are wearing they make it easy with green and red arrows showing increased stats, or decreased.  It makes it real simple if its vendor trash, or something worth equipping.

I haven't tried the crafting yet, but just took a quick glance at it.  It isn't a profession grind from what I could tell.  Basically anyone can craft if you have the right mats to enhance stats on your armor.

I glanced at the Auction House, and it looks like most other auction houses.  I will dabble with it some in the next few days to see how it works.

The best part is the game is free to play with a cash shop.  I am not sure what is in the shop, but so far I haven't seen a reason to go looking for things to buy to help my survivability.  I highly suggest checking out this game.  It could be that game you play until the next MMO comes out.
