Yesterday after hanging out on Google+ most of the day a few players were talking about Dragon Nest. I took a quick look at it, and decided it was worth the download. I believe the game is being marketed as an MMO, but is it really?
I feel that the game has a Guild Wars, and Fable type of gameplay. Others say it is more like Diablo 2. I never played Diablo so I will take their word for it. It seems more of an online RPG.
The game is pretty straightforward as you start off in your town. You have your trainer, auction house, crafter, vendor, and everything located there.
Questing is pretty simple. You have a directional arrow showing you where to go, and how far. No wasting time trying to figure out if you are in the right spot for a quest. Most of the quests involve dungeon instances. You can select the difficulty, and enter.
The part I love is you can solo, and I don't think there is really a holy trinity needed. If you form a group it is just more people killing stuff together. I am playing a Sorcerer, and I like that I have spells, and melee. I can mix it up, and I don't have to be an expert to kill stuff. The combat is similar to Fable for me. You are killing all kinds of mobs, taking little damage, and fighting pretty cool boss fights right from the start.
I had this one boss fight with a Bull. It was fun. He would charge you like a real bull, try to horn you, and stuff. He kept charging me, and send me flying backwards, and knock me down. I experienced my first death in the fight, but like Fable you just rez right on the spot, and finish the fight. No stupid running back, and starting the fight from scratch again.
I completed many dungeons already, and killed cool bosses. I am almost level 7. I have never had this much fun leveling a character. It doesn't feel like a kill ten rat grind. You are having fights in dungeons, and having fun killing stuff while gaining xp. Who could ask for anything more?
Another thing I like about the game is when you are comparing drops with what you are wearing they make it easy with green and red arrows showing increased stats, or decreased. It makes it real simple if its vendor trash, or something worth equipping.
I haven't tried the crafting yet, but just took a quick glance at it. It isn't a profession grind from what I could tell. Basically anyone can craft if you have the right mats to enhance stats on your armor.
I glanced at the Auction House, and it looks like most other auction houses. I will dabble with it some in the next few days to see how it works.
The best part is the game is free to play with a cash shop. I am not sure what is in the shop, but so far I haven't seen a reason to go looking for things to buy to help my survivability. I highly suggest checking out this game. It could be that game you play until the next MMO comes out.
