Limbo is Portal on Steroids. A small Indie company called Playdead developed this great puzzle solving game. After watching the trailer, and it being recommended by Rog Dor I purchased it off of Steam today.
Limbo really makes you think outside the box. Initially you think okay this is easy to do. I will push this here, and jump there, and like magic I will be on the other side. All I can say is get used to dying, but it is the only way you finally figure out how to solve each puzzle.
If it looks simple to solve just be sure to look at all your surroundings. The easy way never works. I will give you one early game spoiler to let you know what I am talking about.
You come up to this area with water. My first attempt I tried to swim. I instantly drop to the bottom, and drown.
My second attempt I see this crate near the water. I think I will push the crate in, and use it to stand on in the deep part. I push the crate in the water, and it floats. I try to use it like a raft, and it just sits there. I stand on the edge, and slide off, and drown again.
My third attempt was to do it again. I guess I am a living definition of insanity. I kept doing the same thing expecting different results.
My fourth attempt I decided to look around. I see this rope hanging from a tree. I try to jump up, and I can't reach. I go, and retrieve the crate. I drag the crate back to the rope. I get on top of the crate, and jump. I grab hold of the rope, and start climbing. I try to grab the branch holding the rope, and I keep falling off, and dying.
My fifth attempt I am starting to get a little frustrated, but at the same time Limbo isn't going to get the best of me. I will stay up all night until I figure it out. It gets that crazy addicting. I finally figured by kicking my legs I could swing on the rope. Once I got going I saw I could grab a branch on the next tree over. I still wasn't sure if this is what I was supposed to do.
It worked. I climbed up, and than basically jumped back, and forth from each tree branch until I got to the top. Can you guess what I found at the top? A broken top part of the tree. I push it over, and it falls down.
I climb down the trees, and than push the log into the water. I think finally. Well, that is what I get for thinking. The tree doesn't go all the way across. I than have to go back, and get the crate. I push the crate into the tree.
After all that I was able to jump on the crate, and than the tree, and finally make it across.
This next one stumped me for a while too. I won't spoil it, but you see a bear trap up in the tree, and a little bit farther this giant spider won't let you pass, and it daggers you with its leg, and you die. I tried everything, and was about to ragequit than I thought outside of the box, and figured out the next part of Limbo.
Limbo is a must buy on Steam. It is also available on some consoles. The price is unbeatable. It is only $9.99 for hours, and hours of puzzle solving enjoyment.
