Today on Google + I posted a topic about what MMORPG 6 man group would win in an MMORPG vs MMORPG pvp battle. What would you pick would it be World of Warcraft, Rift, Aion, DAOC, WAR, or what MMORPG? It was pretty interesting discussion which made me think of what makes PvP fun.
I look back at all the games I have enjoyed PvP in. Eventually PvP changed in every game to where it was no longer enjoyable for me. What is it that I want to see in a PvP game?
Can MMORPG's be made into a meaningful PvP game? I am not sure it can work like an MMORPG. So what kind of things would I put in a PvP game if I was a developer?
There really needs to be a penalty for dying. I know the carebears are going to come out of the woodwork for this one. I just want to see a more hardcore, possibly niche indie PvP game.
I would like to see a Free for All server. This will help build the strongest guilds in a game. Everyone will play in groups, and stick up for each other. Guilds will seek revenge on other guilds for ganking one of their own.
Guilds will have player made bases that grow from player crafting. You could build turrets, cannons, castles, forts, and so on. Everything would involve teamwork. One person collects mining materials, another crafts it, another builds it, and another upgrades it.
The only way you gain xp is by killing other players. The downside would be you would lose xp if you die. You also can lose enough xp to lose levels. You would no longer be able to get max level, and automatically stay. You have to keep gaining xp by killing players, or you could eventually lose a level.
This would eliminate all the suicide AOE zerg fests where one small amount of players are left standing, and claim victory. PvP fights would be more strategic.
Killing mobs wouldn't be for xp. It would be fighting over a spot to farm crafting material drops off the mobs. It would be gathering skins, horns, teeth, or whatever to make weapons, or build your base. Everything in the game is player made.
There would be no NPC merchants, or auction houses. You will have to rely on building a guild that works together, and thrives.
Would gamers play a PvP game like this? What would you like to see in a PvP game? Do you want to join the discussion? Follow me on G+, and start enjoying the great discussions we have every day with our circles.
