Are MMORPG's About The Memories?

What makes you play World of Warcraft, Rift, Warhammer Online, or the many other MMORPG's out there?  Is it really the gear?  Is it really the PvP?  Is it really the Crafting?

I think most of the reasons we play are the lasting memories we cherish about the game.  I look back this last ten years, and the things I remember are not the day I got my first purple, or the endgame hammer,  or whatever.

When I look back at all my gaming experiences it has always been the interactions with other players.   It is the memories we created together playing.  It is no different than the memories you hold of real life stuff.  Do you really remember the first time you rode a bike, learned to hit a baseball?  Most likely not. What you do remember is that one time you jumped off the highest ramp on your street, or when you hit the ball through the neighbors window.

Now that we are talking about memories what are some of your best gaming memories?  I have a couple to share to get everyone started, and also get a good laugh.

Dark Age of Camelot was my first pvp experience.  I was such a noob it wasn't even funny.  We managed to throw together a few groups, and go to the Gorge at a pretty early level.  I didn't really know what was going on.  I was just following, and taking orders.  All of a sudden I saw red all over.  I was pissed.  I thought some idiot run us through a bunch of aggro mobs.  All I saw was briton invaders or something like that.  I don't remember exactly. but I was such a noob I didn't even realize they were all Hib players.

A few days later a fellow guildmate decided to take me to the Gorge to find some Hibs to gank while out xping.  He took me on the long journey from Emain all the way across the zones.   We finally find some players xping out near the lake in the gorge.  We go in for the attack.  I am taking quite a bit of damage.  I need to med, or I am going to die.  So what do I do?  I try to sit down in the middle of some Hibs attacking me to regain my health bar.  Of course I died.  My guildmate didn't stop laughing for days.  He was like WTF were you thinking that you could just sit down in the middle of a fight, and med up?

As time progressed, and after several alts I became very good at pvp.  I had a great pvp experience with my alt Skald in BG1.  Late at night a bunch of Shadowblades (I think that is what they were called) tried to climb the keep walls, and ninja the keep without taking the doors down.  I cried for help for people to come help, but no one showed up.  I don't exactly remember all the details, but somehow I managed to fend off at least five shadowblades for about two hours.  I just kept killing them over, and over.  I trolled them so hard on the VN boards I think they wanted to come kill me in real life.  Eventually they decided to take the keep the old fashioned way, and I couldn't hold off twenty of them.  It was probably one of my most favorite pvp moments of all time in DAOC.

What are your favorite noob, or pwning moments in pvp?
