Tonight I had a whole new experience with Sim City. Unfortunately after a great night last night, and being a jerk to everyone today complaining the karma came back to bite me big time. The night was full of Sim City Drama, like the bad Jerry Springer like drama.
Initially tonight I logged on, and decided it was time for a new city, The first night was trial, and error while learning the game. I create a new city, and crash boom bam my game crashes. I figure no problem the game should be autosaving. You know what happens when you assume. My new city is gone.
I rinse, and repeat. I figure another half hour or hour goes by, and crash boom bam my game crashes again. I log back in, and once again my whole new city is gone. By this time I am ready to ragequit.
I vent a little bit, break some keyboards, throw empty beer bottles at the wall, and cuss alot to release some frustration. After calming down a little bit I log back into the game for the third time. I initially didn't think about the server was on. I figured it just auto selected one closest to me. I realized I had been playing on the Oceanic server.
It strikes me that being on the Oceanic Server may have been the reason for the crashes since I live on the West Coast. I figured out there were more servers and I joined the North American server. I realize real quickly that my other cities are on the other server. I figure no problem I was starting a new city anyways.
Well, EA decided to hit me aside the head with a Sledgehammer. I had to do the whole stupid tutorial again before I could even make my city. I hope someone tells me down in the comments that there is a key I can press to skip that for next time it happens.
I finally get to my city, and begin creating it. I choose my region, and my actual city plot. Once again EA hits me aside the head with a baseball bat. Your city cannot currently load, and try again later. It doesn't save any of your city info so you have to go through the whole selection process again. What a pain in the you know what.
I believe I am a glutton for punishment. I must have did it about ten times before it finally let me create it, and start building my city. I am doing just great, and I learned finally to stop, and save. At least I thought it was being smart. Is it a bug, or is it the way it saves but I would lose so much work each time it saved. ?
I swear libraries, police stations, parks, etc would disappear when I logged back in, but the money from originally building them was still gone. I guess maybe it was my imagination, but I doubt it.
The final nail in the coffin tonight was a pop up message came up that said something like Your City isn't syncing properly. Would you like to try to repair it? Please quit, and go to the main menu. I do it, and than my city gives me the option. Would you like to roll back, or abandon your city? WTF!!!!!
I choose rollback, and I lost a few hours of work. I really am going to let this whole launch thing settle for a few days, and hopefully it will get better. Otherwise I am going to be excessively drinking on a nightly basis dealing with this DRM screw you with no lube situation with EA.
