I have had a chance the last two days to experience the Orcs Must Die 2 Demo. I forgot how much I loved Orcs Must Die in 2011. It is by far the best tower defense game you can play. You can pick it up on Steam for a great price of less than $15.
The biggest change is Co-op being added to the game. You can now play with any of your Steam friends. Are your friends not playing Orcs Must Die 2? No problem. I created a Orcs Must Die 2 Co-Op group on Steam. You can now easily find other players who are playing the game who want to do Co-op. The whole friend finder tool that Robot Entertainment came up with is awkward, and cumbersome. By just easily joining the Steam Orcs Must Die 2 Co-op group you are instantly able to play with people currently online, and wanting to co-op.
The demo is really small. You only have the ability to play two different maps. You have the Edge, and the Tunnels. I found both maps very easy to get five skulls in. You can watch my current Orcs Must Die 2 Live Gameplay video showing several different ways I completed the maps with five skulls. I accomplished five skulls by just using several of the different traps all by themselves. The maps were pretty easy, and I never struggled to get five skulls.
The mage starts out with a Blunderbuss. I am not a big fan of it. After every shot it twirls the gun in the air. It gets a bit annoying. I was unable to upgrade to the crossbow in the demo which was very disappointing. You also have the choice of playing the Sorceress, but I never ended up trying her out although many people in co-op I played with did.
The demo limits most of the traps, and the upgrades. I was able to purchase a few with my skulls, but I also noticed you can buy almost every trap, or weapon. It didn't work in the demo so in a few days I will know if you will be able to pay to win instead of earning each trap, and upgrade like in Orcs Must Die.
One of my biggest co-op questions was answered today. You can play with two mages, or two sorceress at the same time. It was going to be disappointing if it didn't allow it. The demo maps are so easy it didn't really let me truly test out co-op, but I do like playing with other players. It livens the game up for sure.
I would definitely buy this game on Steam. You can't lose playing a game that costs less than $15. It is guaranteed to bring you many, many hours of gaming enjoyment.
