Do you end up ever getting stuck in a certain chapter in a game? Is there one boss you seem to not be able to beat? Have you looked at walkthroughs on Youtube, and still can't get past it?
I deal with this all the time. I get to a point in a game where the frustration levels end up just making me ragequit, and I never play the game again. I have watched many walkthroughs of Limbo, Darksiders, and other games. I see that I am doing it right, but I just can't get my timing just right, or whatever.
I feel like I am being cheated by the game. I pay $50 for a game, and only get to play 25% of the content. I would like just for once be able to complete a game, and see the ending credits. The closest I have come is finishing the Apprentice level in Orcs Must Die. It was very satisfying completing all the levels, and gaining the achievement on Steam.
Isn't the purpose of games fun? Why ruin it for those of us who may not be the most pro players, but would still like to progress in the game. This is where I think you should be able to use a skip forward button if you ever get stuck. Of course put a limit on how many you can use, but at least it will be like a get out of jail free card for some of us.
Gaming companies could even keep achievements from unlocking unless you do all the content without skipping, but at least I would see more games full content. They could even offer a way at the end to go back to the skipped parts to eventually complete it 100%.
Is this why deep down I really like MMORPG's? In an MMO I can skip a quest, a dungeon, crafting, pvp, or whatever I am not good at, and still be able to progress. Am I having a bad night, and losing in pvp alot? No problem. I can decide to leave for the night, and level up my crafting instead, or play an alt.
In Summary I would love single player games to offer the same kind of options as an MMO when a player becomes frustrated. What do you think?
