Call me a noob I guess. I went almost 20 levels before I realized that in Diablo 3 you can give your scoundrel a weapon, two rings, and a neck piece. I kept wondering why the guy was a pile of nothing, and basically worthless. Just hit F in the game to bring up his character display, and equip the items. On top of that they also level up skills every five levels. It made a huge difference once I selected spells, and gave him some upgraded equipment.
